Hi everyone, just want to let you know that starting from the 24th February 2022, the Writing Interview section at the Duolingo English Test is going to be SCORED – so, you will get a score for this section which in turn will influence your overall band.
Prior to the above-mentioned date, this section, which is positioned at the very end of the test, was not graded – Duolingo asked you to respond in writing to a topic and informed you that some colleges may want to have a look at it. Now the situation is different – you HAVE to write seriously:) because your answer will influence your score at Duolingo.
What has really changed for candidates? If you have been serious about your Duolingo preparation approach including this Writing Interview section, nothing has changed dramatically, I guess… You just know now that your mini-essay will be graded.
If you were thinking about just writing that task for a formal procedure, not paying too much attention to the attitude – in this case now it is high time to utilize the opposite approach. You don’t want to lose precious points at the end of the whole test. So, it is time to start improving your writing.
I believe that in many aspects Duolingo Writing is similar to any other type of writing tasks at any test of English including TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, FCE, GMAT – you express your ideas in pen. The more elaborately and fluently you do it, the better. Duolingo is characterized by its concise time frames – so, you need to adapt to this velocity of written production. Still, basic features of your essay such as arguments, introduction, body, examples – they stay the same forever!:)
